Lithium Batteries - Updated Regulations

From 04/DEC/2023 DHL has changed its policies regarding the transport of Lithium batteries within their network.

From this date the ability to select the lithium battery options when booking in our online pickup system will be removed.

You can still send lithium battery shipments however now you can only send the amounts listed below and the batteries MUST be inside the equipment only.

Please see below guidelines to shipping any Lithium battery shipments from 04/DEC/2023 onwards through DHL.

If sending under the below provisions, then please select the DOES NOT CONTAIN DG option when booking online and follow all the below guidelines.

A guide to shipping items containing lithium ion/metal batteries.
Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries CONTAINED IN EQUIPMENT (only) - Proviso Guidelines
1. Batteries must be less than 100 WH
2. Battery must be contained in the equipment
3. Each piece of equipment must be separately packed in a strong inner box - Max 2 pieces of equipment per package and a Max of 2 packages per shipment/ per consignee/per day
4. Do not apply a Lithium Label to the outside of the package/ remove all lithium labels
5. Do not send a Transportation Letter with the shipment
6. Ensure the equipment is on 'OFF' mode
7. Packaged securely to ensure no room for friction - must be in a box - not in a DHL Satchel
8. Account does not need to be approved
9. Recommendation to provide SDS (Safety Data Sheet) with each shipment
10. Wording on the description section of the AWB should read as follows:
Commodity Description X QUANTITY (E.g. laptop x 1)
